Luigi Zaccagnini was born and raised in a little town in Abruzzo, Italy before immigrating to Toronto, Canada in 1959. Being a natural entrepreneur, he found several ways to support his family.
His youngest son Dino shared the same ambitious drive and created his first business at a very young age. He always strived to be the best with every venture he involved himself in. Many years of different successful businesses had still left him unfulfilled.
After a chance conversation with his father about the espresso he missed from home, Dino became inspired. He was determined to create the finest quality espresso with the true original European taste.
To produce the finest possible coffee, Luigi and Dino did research in Brazil at first and spread their contacts into many different countries, searching for the right type of beans. They decided early on that to ensure the highest possible quality, they would roast imported green coffee beans themselves, blend them into the best tasting mixture and package it themselves. They purchased the best roaster available, installed quality production standards and purchased state-of-the-art packaging machinery. When starting their research in Brazil, they came upon a bird that resides in the coffee growing regions known as the Blue Macaw (Ara Azzurro). They adopted this bird as their symbol for their trademark and designed their labels around the name and image.
The result has been impressive. The blend used to produce the Ara Azzurro Espresso delivers the highest degree of taste, with no bitterness or aftertaste. All the product offerings (250 gr. ground, 500 gr. ground and 1 kg. bean) are packaged in a vented bag to provide ventilation for the product and help the consumers let their noses give them the first pleasant sensation, followed by a taste experience like no other. The “crema” is distinctive and indicates the right degree of blend and roasting.
The Decaff line of coffees, similarly, uses a specially selected bean and is roasted to the perfect temperature in small batches to assure quality and consistency of flavour.
They have now established a quickly growing network of over 500 outlets where their coffee can be purchased. They will continue to maintain the highest quality production and packaging standards in Ara Azzurro Espresso and all of the derivatives produced under this trademark in the future.
